Be Eco-Friendly with Woolzies Dryer Balls

One of my most dreaded household chores is laundry. I do like 2-3 loads a day, seriously! It’s so bad I can never keep up! What’s worse? I am OCD and I want my laundry SOFT. Many people are particular about wanted it to smell great, to me it is the softness. I wash everything 2 or 3 times after I buy it before I will even use it because I hate stiff clothing. I especially hate towels that are not as soft as possible. I have tried a TON of different fabric softeners including liquids, sheets, crystals, even tennis balls after talking to someone else who swore they worked (they did not!) I usually end up using a combo of 2 or 3 kinds and still adding way more then I should of each. This can be costly! And well not great for clothes OR for my animals or kids. All those chemicals all over everything is not a good thought now that I actually think about it. So, I was pretty excited to try Woolzies. I was kind of hesitant to believe that a few balls of “sheep fur” as my husband jokes, could really do anything at all to my clothing.

Woolzies dryer balls are ball of wool that aid in softening clothing without harsh chemicals. They are 100% eco-friendly and can be used for up to 1000 loads without falling apart! It even states that they are able to be used by people with wool sensitivities as they do not shed. Wool has a tendency to make me itch, badly! So I just crossed my fingers in hopes that this statement proved to be true! Woolzies work to soften clothing but they have an even better use in my opinion, They claim to cut drying time since they naturally separate clothes while being tossed around. Anything to make laundry duty quicker and also save energy on my electric bill is worth a try!

When I received the box, I kind of giggled to myself.. Yep, I was about to throw some “sheep fur” into my dryer. The box contained six baseball sized balls of wool. They weren’t all exactly the same size, but I read that these are handmade so that would be why. Of course I had to smell them.. not much of a scent. The box stated that I should use all six! I was looking at it in disbelief! That seemed crazy because these little things had some weight to them and I just knew it would sound like a herd of elephants in there! But I tossed them on in and started my load. It was hard to believe that they really did not make much noise at all. Every now and then I would hear a small bump or two but absolutely nothing compared to what I expected. My dryer has a sensor that can tell when clothes are dry and turns the dryer off. It usually take about 30 minutes for a typical load. When I heard my dryer buzz, it had been 21 minutes.. this was pretty consistant on all of the following loads as well. My blankets even dried in about 35 minutes compared to the 45 minutes it usually takes.

The big test was whether it softened my clothing. I don’t know how, but it actually did! It wasn’t perfectly soft, but considering I used nothing more than the Woolzies, it did a great job! I even added a few drops of essential oils to the Woolzies to create the great smelling laundry you get with dryer sheets. Wasn’t as strong as using the sheets but you could still smell it. My biggest concern was washing my fleece blanket because it always has horrible static. There was still a bit of static, but I remembered seeing a note that you could use a ball of aluminum foil the size of the Woolzies to help with this. The next time I used this trick (hesitantly because I was a bit weirded out by aluminum foil in my dryer.) But it really did the trick! No static at all! Woolzies have definitely won me over. They seem a bit pricey at 35.99 a box, but once I actually break down how many loads they can be used in and how much fabric softener I will not have to purchase, it is actually a savings on my part! Definitely a must have for anyone looking to save money while still having a product that works!

I got the chance to review these as well and I was amazed at how much they reduced my drying time. I figure that alone is going to save me at least $10 a month on my electric bill, but I imagine it will be a lot more. With summer rates in full effect, I’m thankful to have them!
