Being a female who grew up in a not so great area, I am always looking for ways to protect myself. I’m not against carrying a gun or knife but I feel a knife wouldn’t do me as much good and I have not had enough gun training to be comfortable carrying one yet. So as it stands I have really been pretty useless in the self protection department. that is until I found Damsel In Defense. I received a few self defense products designed specifically with woman in mind. With these products, I can now feel confident that I can protect myself and my young son should the need arise.
I received the package shown above from Rosi, a pro from Damsel In Defense to facilitate this review. Of course, I have not actually USED the products so I won’t say “oh that stun gun knocked him out and I was able to get away”! HAHA But I will review the features and how I ‘could’ use each item should a circumstance present itself.
The first product I have is the pepper spray. it comes in a cute pink pouch that has a key ring hook so you can easily attach it to your keys and have it at all times. Sadly, I lose my keys in my black hole purse. BUT I was able to attach the key ring to my purse and the pouch is inconspicuous enough that no one really knows exactly what it is. Inside is the pepper spray. It is the perfect size to be useful, easily fit in your hand, and surprise your attacker. Once sprayed in the eyes, you increase your chances of getting away. The pepper spray is made of cayenne peppers and will seriously burn their eyes. (this I have experienced on accident and lets say I know first hand that it will stop someone in their tracks for a few seconds at the very least!) I always recommend having pepper spray on hand. It’s not something that can kill a person or seriously harm them, so it is good even for those who are against violence.
The next product is a Kubotan. I had never heard of this product previously but it is a pretty cool little tool. It also comes with a key ring attachment. The Kubotan is a small metal tool that is about the size of a marker, It comes to a blunt tip that is not sharp but can cause pain. It is used as extra leverage in an attack. When used to hit against bone or muscle, it heightens the amount of pain that would be cause by fist contact alone. It can be used to jab into areas such as the wrist, neck and back. It is not sharp so it will not puncture the skin when used (nor will you have to worry about accidentally harming yourself when carrying it.)
The last product in this damsel in Defense kit is the one that really packs a punch and can come in handy in a serious need. The stun gun comes in a black storage pouch that fits perfect in your purse or even back pocket if needed. It is small in size and fits well in your hand. I love that it has a built in charger so all you have to do is slide it out and plug it into the wall. Once charged, it can be used as a flashlight or as a stun gun. This particular model comes with a safety feature that I am very fond of. There is a removable pin that when pulled out, completely deactivates it. So, if you have kids you wouldn’t have to worry about them accidentally blasting themselves. Likewise if the need arose for you to actually use it and your assailant managed to grab it from your hands, you can pull the pin and they can not use it against you! The stun gun can be used through clothing, but is more useful if you can gain skin contact. Once activated, it releases a shock that forces the muscles to start contracting (and this is pretty painful if you have ever experienced uncontrollable muscle spasms!) This will definitely give you a higher chance of getting away and scaring away an assailant.
I love that there is a company who is helping to promote feminine versions of self defense products to keep us ladies safe from the cruel outside world. We have to do more on our own now and do not always have someone to protect us, so it is nice to feel safe. And to have products offered to keep us safe without killing or seriously harming another person just makes me even more proud to stand behind them! Make sure to check out Damsel in Defense to purchase the above products or other similar self defense products. Rosi will be sure to help you find what you need and is a delight to work with!
