Yonanas-My Healthy Dessert!

I have seen the Yonanas commercial so many times. It never fails my son would say “That looks so cool, I want to try it!” Of course my reply was “Yeah, I’m not wasting my money on something that won’t work.” I’m not a big ‘As seen on TV’  person. Many of my experiences with those have been less than desirable. The good news for my son is Yonanas gave me the opportunity to review their product and I have to admit this momma made the wrong call on not ordering one before now!

What is Yonanas?

Yonanas is one of the latest crazes to spread like wildfire. In a time where we are all focused on wanting to eat healthier and watch our weight, products like this come about that help change the direction of your eating habits. If you are a big ice cream person, it can be super hard to over come. Yonanas designed a machine that takes fruit (like Dola bananas!) and turns it into ice cream! You skip all the added sugars and unhealthy ingredients and go straight for a natural sweet. And the fact that it becomes ice cream consistency just further tricks your brain into being ok with it!

Does Yonanas work?

Well, if you read my opening paragraph, you see I feel guilty for not ordering it sooner! I deprived my kids of a healthy dessert and forced real ice cream on them because I was a skeptic! Needless to say, we have not purchased ice cream in quite some time now. Yonanas is so simple to use and works like a charm! You simply take your over-ripe bananas ( you know, the ones with the big brown spots you’d probably toss on a regular occasion) and put them in the freezer. I place them on wax paper until they are mostly frozen and then bag them so I have them on hand when I desire a treat. They need to be frozen at least 24 hours in advance. When you are ready to make some Yonanas ice cream, just take out your bananas (2 work great to make enough for myself and my two kids) I let them sit for about 15 minutes to soften a bit. Then you simply place the frozen bananas into the machine and it some how turns it into an ice cream consistency! I really do not know how it works, but amazingly it does!

Does Yonanas taste as good as ice cream?

Of course this is the last question on everyone’s mind. Well, I’d have to say yes and no to this one. The consistency is perfect as ice cream. The flavor can be a bit too much if you are not a banana person. It absolutely tastes like bananas. BUT you can fix that! The kids didn’t mind the banana, but we all preferred more flavor. You can change it up to suit your tastes any way you please. You can use other frozen fruits (frozen peaches were great!) you can use chocolate, peanut butter (mix in after the ice cream is made, trust me when I say putting it through the machine is not a good idea.. lesson learned) We made chocolate peanut butter Yonanas a few times as it was a big hit. But our favorite concoction was what we called banana nut Yonanas!

Banana Nut Yonanas

2 frozen bananas

1 TBSP Cinnamon Sugar

1/4 cup chopped nuts (or if you are lazy like me, just toss in the whole nuts!)

Run the bananas through the Yonanas maker. Afterwards, mix in the cinnamon sugar and chopped nuts. serves 2-3 people. Enjoy a delicious, yet way healthier ice cream alternative!

These are great. I have one and the kids are in love with it. It sits on my counter and is used about every 2-3 days. It’s definitely not one of those appliances that you just leave in the cabinet.

We like ours mixed with strawberry and blueberry. YUM.

If you have a dishwasher cleaning should be a breeze. I have to do mine by hand and it’s not the most fun chore of the day but the ice cream does make up for that! LOL
